A historical & cultural wonder.
One of the earliest permanent European settlements in northeastern North America, today visitors to Ferryland watch as the archeological wonders of the Colony of Avalon are unearthed before their eyes. Today, the town is fondly referred to as ‘The Irish Heart of Newfoundland and Labrador’ so visitors are also charmed by unique traditions, musical talents, and friendly accents that are distinctly Irish.
Take it all in.
Ferryland is a convenient and scenic 1-hour drive from St. John’s and the halfway point between the capital city and the Mistaken Point UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Ferryland, the welcoming committee includes icebergs, seabirds, and whales in the waters that surround the town, as well as local residents and business owners ready to share their talents and charming corner of the world.
